Preserving the Past

The Heritage Museum is located on Main Street in one of Wetaskiwin's most historic buildings

The Heritage Museum, located in the heart of Wetaskiwin's historic downtown, has been preserving local history since 1986. The museum currently offers three-floors of exhibits relating to everything from First Nations' history to the War Years! Learn about Wetaskiwin's early businesses, read about the extraordinary Women of Aspenland, see an authentic tipi, and have a glimpse of life on a Hutterite colony. And now you can explore local history through modern technology. Find out more by visiting the Heritage Museum today!

NOW OPEN...

The Origins Exhibit

The much anticipated Origins Exhibit is now open! See dinosaur fossils, archaeological artefacts, and learn about the local Cree Nations of Samson, Ermineskin, Montana, and Louis Bull. A fur trading post and a tipi are also included in the exhibit. And try playing our new Interactive Games, where you can learn about Cree migration, bison, and fur trading!
Still to come...The Origins Exhibit will also feature a multimedia presentation in the coming weeks!

And, after two years of research and more than 250 hours of exhibit design work, visitors are now welcome to explore the new "virtual" exhibit devoted to twenty-five Community Halls from the County of Wetaskiwin! Read the halls' histories and view hundreds of pictures on a new touchscreen computer.

Women of Aspenland 2008

In this ongoing exhibit, the women are honoured for their significant and unique contributions to the community. This year's exhibit is now open recognising Mary Christopher, Minnie Johnson, Caroline Shantz, and Peggy Emmett. The Museum is open from 10 am-5 pm. Contact the museum at 780-352-0227 for more information.
